Street Food : Food Trip in Pardo Market

August 14, 2011

It was another lazy afternoon. Like any other afternoon, my cousins were at our usual 'tambayan' --my room. We were looking at this page in Facebook that features different Cebuano foods. Believe me, they all look delicious. We even feel hungry just by looking at them. So, right then and there we decided to go food trippin' in our local market. Street foods are shouting in our heads! hehehe

Street foods are very popular here in the Philippines. It's almost part of our culture. You can even see different kinds of these in every corner of the street. Most commonly they are seen in places with lots of people like market place, outside school campus, outside the church or besides every jeepney stops.

As for our food trippin' for the day, we headed to our local market, where all different kinds of street food can be found. It was very convenient for us, because its just a 10-minute walk from our house. No sweat at all! :)

Kwek-kwek was the first food we tried. A quail's egg rolled in a flour and dip in a mixture of flour, water and food coloring. It is then deep fried to achieve the crunchy taste of it.
It costs 3 pesos each. A little precaution though, even if it looks small, this tiny egg has 3 times more cholesterol than that of a chicken egg. Not good for a hypertensive person.

Sinugbang Mais in other word,  Grilled Corn.  It cost 10 pesos each.

Mani or Peanuts cost 5pesos/10pesos per serving. You can either have it plain, hot or sweet. The sweet peanuts are coated with sugar, while the hot one are mixed with chili pepper.

Tempura was the last food we tried before heading back home. It's a mix of white fish in mild spices and flour, which only cost 3pesos each.

We really had a great time eating from one food to another. I'm looking forward to our next Street Food tripping. Til next time! Ciao! ^_^
